Land and Water Pollution in Seaside

Vanuatu | Land and Water Pollution in Seaside - Seaside Climate Ambassadors | 2024

Halo olgeta!

We are the Seaside Climate Ambassadors, a youth-led movement dedicated to reducing the effects of land and water pollution in Seaside communities. In 2024, we launched our campaign to raise awareness, engage in hands-on clean-up efforts, and advocate for better waste management systems. Our mission? To make Seaside a model community for sustainable waste practices, inspiring Port Vila and beyond.

The Right-Sized Problem

Seaside communities struggle with unmanaged waste, leading to polluted coastlines, unsafe living conditions, and increased health risks. Lack of awareness, improper disposal habits, and minimal community engagement make it difficult to implement effective waste management solutions. Without intervention, pollution will continue to degrade marine ecosystems and public spaces.

What did we do?

Through community clean-ups, awareness campaigns, creative advocacy, and youth engagement, we mobilized residents, young people, and local leaders to take action.

Offline Impact

πŸ—‘οΈ Komuniti Klinap (October 8-10, 2024) – Mobilized youth groups and residents to clean up public spaces and restore local environments.

Campaign Impact

  • 120 youth engaged in in-person activities.

  • 137 Facebook members engaged through online discussions.

  • Successful collaboration with local youth groups and women’s councils.

  • Community leaders recognized youth efforts in waste management for the first time.

  • Youth gained public speaking confidence and leadership skills through campaign planning and execution.

A powerful success story emerged when youth who previously hesitated to speak out gained the confidence to address community leaders, advocating for better waste management policies. Their efforts shifted perceptions, leading to increased community support for youth-led initiatives.

What’s Next?

We are scaling up our impact by:
πŸ“Œ Strengthening partnerships with local councils to enforce waste management policies.
πŸ“Œ Expanding clean-up campaigns to more Seaside communities.
πŸ“Œ Using digital storytelling to increase awareness on a national level.
