The Right-Sized Problem

LGBTQ+ youth in Nepal face high rates of mental health challenges, often due to stigma, discrimination, and lack of support. Access to mental health resources remains limited, leaving many to navigate their struggles alone. By providing safe spaces, workshops, and digital advocacy, we sought to empower queer youth with tools for emotional well-being and self-expression.

What did we do?

Over six months, we led a series of workshops, digital campaigns, and community events to address LGBTQ+ mental health.

Offline Impact

🎨 Art Workshop – A canvas painting session with artist Kailash Shrestha, helping gender-diverse participants express their experiences through art.
πŸ“– Storytelling Workshop – A safe space for self-expression, guiding participants in narrating their personal journeys to boost confidence and connection.
🧠 Mental Health Session – Hosted in partnership with Queering Medicine and Happy Minds, providing coping strategies and emotional resilience training.
🌱 Climate & Disaster Resilience Workshop – Explored how environmental crises impact queer mental health and strategies for inclusive disaster response.

Online & Media Impact

πŸ“± Social Media Campaign – Built an engaged community with 252+ followers and 42.1K video views.
πŸŽ₯ Video Competition – Encouraged youth to create short films on LGBTQ+ mental health, awarding prizes to the top three entries.
πŸŽ™οΈ National Media Coverage – Featured in Online Khabar, one of Nepal’s largest news platforms.

Impact in Numbers

  • 120+ participants engaged through in-person workshops.

  • 42.1K views and 1.7K interactions on social media.

  • Expanded partnerships with three organizations: B6 Media, Queering Medicine, and Happy Minds.

One of our biggest successes was building a stronger support network for LGBTQ+ youth. Many participants opened up about their struggles for the first time, fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity. As one participant shared:

"This campaign helped me gain confidence in expressing myself. I was shy before, but now I can speak about mental health and LGBTQ+ issues with strength."

– Feronika, 16

"I never knew so much about LGBTQ+ mental health before. Now, I understand the challenges and how to support my friends better."

– Korlina, 16

What’s Next?

We are expanding our impact to ensure more LGBTQ+ youth can access mental health support. Our next steps include:
πŸ“Œ Launching peer support circles for continued emotional support.
πŸ“Œ Strengthening online presence to reach more youth across Nepal.
πŸ“Œ Growing partnerships with mental health professionals and advocacy groups.
