“67 for a Green Environment”

An Giang, Vietnam | Werewolf Village | 2022
Note: 67 is the zip code of An Giang province where the youth group lives

We’re Werewolf Village (WWV), a group of 9 LGBT+ youth from Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province, Vietnam who want to protect the environment!

The Right-Sized Problem

At this point, many people know that we have a BIG problem when it comes to trash. However, the media is not doing a very good job at convincing the people of Long Xuyen city to get into recycling.

What did we do?

Through various media materials and events, we’ve recruited people to join our garbage collection activities, how-to’s on recycling, online challenges and creative contests in a 7-day full-on no-plastics challenge!

And in the midst of all the waste, we also organised a “67 Promotes Green Environment” gala night at An Giang University to celebrate accomplishments around our treasured trash and inspire more students to come on board. We also had a fashion show with costumes made from reused plastic!

Impact on the community of An Giang

We've had an incredible journey of collaboration and impact at An Giang Shifters! We teamed up with An Giang University (AGU) during Shift co-creation workshops, and together, we partnered with the University youth union group and Vuon Thuoc Nam youth group to spread our campaign message and kickstart public events. The Gender Equality Club (GEC) played a key role too, as they introduced the campaign to their members and promoted it at the Share event at AGU.

We didn't just stop at the university level; we also made a meaningful impact in the community. We had a direct conversation with the vice president of Long Xuyen, focusing on promoting recycling in the city. Thanks to these amazing partnerships and our collective efforts, we saw over 480 young people getting involved and participating in our campaign activities directly – it was truly inspiring!

Our social media strategy was on point! By sharing our green project journey and key messages, we drew a fantastic crowd of up to 1,273 attendees across six public activations. But the excitement didn't stop there – our campaign received an amazing 27,000+ interactions through public activations and social media messaging. We're thrilled to be making a real difference and spreading green vibes everywhere we go! 🌿💚

Words from Werewolf Village group

“From Shift 2022, we gained a lot of experience in campaigning that included planning and activating a campaign as well as broader knowledge within the communications sector. This will be a strong foundation for us to continue to produce campaigns on these topics and issues into the future.”
