Hola! Mambo vipi? I’m Javier and also go by Kamau.
My name is Javier and also go by Kamau. I was born in Colombia and am now based in Kenya where I run an influencer marketing agency called ENGAGEncy Africa.
I use short videos daily on my personal social media pages and also for the brands that we work with to run campaigns with. My guide will be about how short videos on social media can change your community and the world. And I’ll share how to either get you started or support the work you’re already doing.
In University, I studied International Relations and I wanted to work at an embassy where I would be engaging with local cultures and finding areas of overlap with my own cultures. When I started social media, I saw that I could do this work of creating cultural connections and at an even larger scale all through my phone. One TIkTok dance challenge at a time, I started building an audience of mostly East African youth who were interested in me as a foreigner experiencing their culture.
Posting short videos online changed my life and I want to share its power with you.

Note that I have been creating content for five years now and I don’t own many of these tools. For me, my phone, a window with good lighting, and a tripod are great to create magic.
Today, you will still find me creating content with my smartphone and using water bottles, shoes, tape, etc. to hold my phone when recording.
